  • Orientation is a time when the student has the opportunity to integrate into the NMSU campus community by meeting faculty, staff, and create bonds with other students.
  • Orientation allows the student to learn about the various campus resources available to them here at NMSU.
  • Students have the opportunity to learn about academic requirements, course offerings, and registration procedures.
During your orientation you will meet peers, faculty and staff from various areas of campus in addition to connect with an Orientation Leader who will be there to guide you. You will learn about the different resources NMSU has to offer and meet with various offices if you still need to finalize any paperwork. You will also learn about your responsibilities as a student and the Student Code of Conduct and how this impacts you as a student. During the Orientation program you will meet with an academic adviser and register for classes and at the completion of the orientation you will receive your NMSU Aggie ID card. Please make sure to bring the following items with you:

  • Comfortable shoes and clothing
  • Valid photo ID
  • Printed unofficial transcripts
  • Any pending paperwork you may need to turn in
  • Pillow and linens for your overnight stay

  • If you have never checked your myNMSU email all you must do is pick a time zone and language

Yes. We have an orientation sessions specifically for your family during the student orientation. For family and guest questions please call the Aggie Family Outreach Office at 575-646-8038.

On-campus accommodations are only for students. Families and guests have several overnight accommodations close to the university. For a list of options, click here.

If family members or guests choose to attend orientation with their student, they will participate in a separate family orientation. Families and guests will have the opportunity to meet university administrators and faculty, and learn about academic programs, policies, facilities, and services.
Yes. All first-time undergraduate students at New Mexico State University will be charged $165.00 upon registering for an orientation program. A minimum $50.00 payment must be made to secure your spot at orientation. This fee is used to provide programs and services to help new students with their transition to NMSU.

Your final step in competing your Orientation registration is to make a minimum $50 payment to guarantee your spot for your selected orientation program. This payment must be made to secure your spot at orientation. Your reservation will not be confirmed prior to the payment being received and the program you selected may not be available at a later date. This $50 does go towards your overall $165 fee. 

The Orientation Hold is placed upon admission to NMSU for all new students who are:


    • New Undergraduate Students
    • Freshmen Transfer
    • Transfer from Out-of-state
    • Transfer from In-state
    • The Hold is removed by Aggie Welcome and Orientation staff after you have completed your Orientation.

Our reservation system closes 48 hours prior to the orientation date.
